Gerard is a communications professional, founder and former partner of an Amsterdam advertising agency. In 2013, after selling his share of the company, he freed up a bit of his time and joined the organizing committee of the short track street race in his hometown of Heemskerk, one of the most popular horse racing events in the Netherlands.
In 2016, Gerard was elected chairman of the Short Track Trotting Association of the Netherlands, which represents all 25 to 30 local street race organizations. With 260 years of documented history, the short track street race is generally seen in the Netherlands as the birthplace of trotting. Attracting tens of thousands of close-up spectators every year, has earned several street races official acknowledgement as cultural heritage.
