Biography

Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges joined The Hong Kong Jockey Club in 1998 and has been its Chief Executive Officer since 2007.  During this period he played a significant role in uplifting the quality and profile of Hong Kong horse racing to world-class standards.

Internationally, Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges is Vice Chairman of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA), the world’s highest thoroughbred racing authority, and Chairman of the Asian Racing Federation (ARF), which comprises over 20 member racing jurisdictions and promotes horseracing within Asia.

Mr Engelbrecht-Bresges is a graduate of the University of Cologne in Economics, Finance and Statistics. He has a passion for horse racing, breeding and ownership and was a Board Member of the German Jockey Club for 10 years, serving as Executive Vice President for six years. He is also an avid football fan, and played football professionally in Germany before graduation.
